ABOUT US

About Nazareth Youth Wrestling Club

The Nazareth Youth Wrestling Club celebrated 50 years of wrestling in the 2017 season. The club consists of wrestlers and cheerleaders from grades K-6, who reside in the Nazareth Area School District. We are a member of the Valley Elementary Wrestling League (VEWL) and compete against other youth wrestling clubs in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas. The NYWC offers Nazareth children the opportunity to participate in a formal and competitive wrestling program to create a quality feeder program for the Nazareth Jr. High and High School wrestling and cheerleading teams. The Nazareth Area School District provides a safe facility and our coaches offer fun and challenging exposure to the sports of wrestling and cheerleading with a focus on providing a foundation of character building, athletic conditioning, and skill development.

Wrestling

The NYWC continues to run a thriving intramural program. This program allows for the younger, less experienced wrestler to have an opportunity to get acquainted with the sport of wrestling in a less intense environment. Intramural is a vital component in the overall success of the Nazareth Youth Wrestling Program. In this non-competitive environment, the wrestlers practice in smaller groups and receive individualized attention. This allows for a less overwhelming learning process. The focus at this level is on the basic fundamentals while making the time

spent in the room enjoyable. The Intramural program typically practices 2 nights per week throughout the season. This program is geared toward first and second year wrestlers in grades K-2. All first and second year wrestlers in grades K-2 are required to begin in the Intramural program. Moving up to the next level is based on coaches discretion. The season begins in November and runs through January, ending with the Intramural Tournament.

The NYWC also offers a highly competitive JV and Varsity level program, entering two solid teams (Blue Team and White Team) within the VEWL. Over the past few years, both our Blue and White teams have consistently finished within the top 4 in the league. This level will progress at a much faster pace and is geared toward our older or more experienced wrestlers. This level requires a greater level of commitment, as they typically practice three nights per week with a meet each weekend, beginning in December. Practices will begin in November and the season runs through mid February, culminating with the VEWL JV & Varsity Tournaments.

During the 2024-2025 season, the NYWC created a Girls Only wrestling opportunity. The girl program was started to build exposure to girls wrestling and continuing to develop our female athletes within the sport of wrestling. Our girls program does not currently compete as a separate team, but all girls have the opportunity to join in on the respective age level co-ed practices throughout the week, as well as, have the opportunity to join both the JV and Varsity level competitive teams.

Cheerleading

Cheerleaders are broken down into a Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity team, typically based on grade. Practices are typically held two evenings per week, beginning in November and continue through the end of January. The cheerleaders will travel to meets each weekend to cheer on their respective teams. The goal of the cheer program is to build a firm foundation of basic cheerleading skills with chants, cheers, jumps, dance, and stunting all while cheering on the wrestlers in a safe and fun environment.

NYWC does not currently offer a Competition Cheerleading Program
